Ojo LGA, Lagos State

Ojo Local Government Area, situated in Lagos West Senatorial District, is a predominantly residential region, complemented by significant commercial activities. Ojo was carved out of the former Badagry LGA in May 1989 during General Ibrahim Babangida’s military administration[1].

Ojo had a population of 609,173 in 2006, which rose to an estimated 901,800 by 2022, with a population density of 5,222 people per square kilometre. The LGA spans 172.7 square kilometres[2] and lies at the coordinates 6°28′N 3°11′E.

The area is renowned for hosting Lagos State University, the Alaba International Market—one of the largest electronics markets in West Africa—and Alaba Livestock Market (Alaba Rago). Additional landmarks include the old Lagos International Trade Fair complex and the divisional headquarters of the 81st Division of the Nigerian Army, alongside Navy Town[3].
