Ibeju-lekki LGA, Lagos State

Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area (LGA) is a coastal region in Lagos State, Nigeria, situated within the Lagos East Senatorial District. The administrative centre is Igando Oloja following the creation of the Lekki Council Development Area[1].

Ibeju-Lekki covers an expansive area of 415.9 square kilometres and recorded a population of 117,793 in 2006. By 2022, this figure was projected to rise to 174,400, resulting in a population density of approximately 419.3 people per square kilometre[2]. The LGA's postal code is 105, and its geographical coordinates are 6.4167°N latitude and 2.8833°E longitude.

Fishing is the dominant occupation among the indigenes, with men harvesting a variety of marine species such as fish, prawns, and lobsters from the Lagos Lagoon and Atlantic Ocean. Women often engage in smoking and grilling the catches[3].

The area hosts several key landmarks, including the Lekki Free Trade Zone, which is home to the Dangote Mega Oil Refinery, Pan-Atlantic University, and the Lekki Deep Seaport, underscoring its significance in Lagos State’s industrial and economic landscape[4].
